IPVanish. It sounds like the perfect VPN, but is it just all hype? All right, let’s dig into the pros and cons of this IPVanish VPN review before you click buy.
Security and Privacy Features
All right, when it comes to online privacy and protection, security, that’s the top priority. So, IPVanish uses top-tier encryption to protect your data. Encryption algorithms used by IPVanish are widely recognized as the gold standard as they’re statistically impossible to crack.
VPN Trust Initiative Accreditation
So, IPVanish is also accredited by the VPN Trust Initiative, showing its commitment to your privacy.
Jurisdiction Concerns
One downside is that IPVanish is based in the US, which is a five-Eyes country, putting it at risk of government surveillance. However, IPVanish recognizes the issue, which is why their strict no-logs policy has been ascertained by independent audits, confirming that IPVanish simply has no data to give up.

Cross-Platform Support
Moving forward in this IPVanish review, it offers excellent cross-platform support, working on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Fire TV, Apple TV, and even browsers.
Drawbacks in User Experience
However, there are a couple of drawbacks. The Linux app doesn’t feature a graphical user interface, making it less user-friendly for those unfamiliar with the command line. Additionally, the macOS app is less customizable compared to its IPVanish Windows counterpart, limiting some advanced features.
Speed and Performance
All right, let’s continue our IPVanish review with speed and performance, especially with its WireGuard protocol offering fast speeds at an affordable price. I’ve put IPVanish to the test, and it does hold its own quite well. To put it in the perspective of the market, IPVanish comes really close to the top three fastest VPNs, NordVPN, Surfshark, and Proton VPN. So, if speed is a priority for you, IPVanish, not going to disappoint.
Server Network
This provider offers servers in over 100 countries and has a server network with above 2,400 servers, despite this server number appearing lacking in comparison to Proton VPN or NordVPN. Don’t let it fool you, 2,000 servers are still more than enough to provide a stable connection. In all my time using IPVanish, I’ve never experienced a slowdown or disconnect due to server overload.
Key Security Features
Now, moreover, IPVanish provides a handy kill switch feature on its desktop and mobile devices. The kill switch automatically cuts off your Internet connection if it detects any disruption in your VPN connection, ensuring that data remains protected at all times. Additionally, the block LAN traffic feature adds an extra layer of security by blocking all local network traffic. This can be especially useful if you’re connecting to public Wi-Fi networks and want to avoid potential risks.
DNS Leak Protection
To demonstrate how effective IPVanish’s security is, I ran a quick DNS leak test, and once connected, the test came back clean, meaning no leaks, and my IP address stayed hidden. In fact, IPVanish does live up to its name. It makes your IP vanish.
Self-Owned Servers
The advantage here is that IP Vanish reviews all of its servers and owns them, which enhances both reliability and security. Now, you’re not going to be relying on third parties, reducing the risk of potential breaches.
Limitations in Server Options
However, IP Vanish doesn’t offer specialized servers like dedicated IPs or P2P optimized ones like that, which could be a downside if you’re looking for more personalized or specific server options.
Ease of Use with On-Demand Connection
Now, another thing to note is that IPVanish’s on demand feature makes life a lot easier by automatically connecting to the VPN in specific situations. Whether you’re connecting to public Wi-Fi in a coffee shop or visiting certain websites, on demand ensures your connection is always secure without the need for manual intervention. It’s perfect for anyone who forgets to turn on their VPN or just wants a hassle-free experience when jumping between networks.
Advanced Features
Split Tunneling
Now, Split Tunneling is another IPVanish setup feature that offers more control over your VPN connection. You can choose which apps or websites use VPN while others just bypass it entirely.
Traffic Obfuscation
Lastly, traffic obfuscation allows you to bypass firewalls that block VPN connections, making it handy if you’re in a restrictive environment. So while it is a useful tool, it has its limitations and may not always get through more advanced firewalls.
SOCKS5 Proxy for Torrenting
IPVanish offers a free SOCKS5 proxy, which is a popular performance boosting option for torrenting. But keep in mind that SOCKS5 doesn’t encrypt your traffic. This means your ISP can still see your online activity. So if you’re looking for complete anonymity, you might want to pair it with full encryption.
Threat Protection (Ad-Blocking)
IPVanish has an ad-blocking feature called Threat Protection. Not to be confused with an ad-blocking feature from NordVPN called Threat Protection. Yes, this is real. Don’t ask me why these providers are running out of creative juices. They just are. Now, by using custom DNS addresses, it shields your browsing activity, making your online experience both smooth and secure. It’s an effective tool that gives you peace of mind without slowing down your browsing or streaming.
Livedrive Cloud Storage
Now, for those needing extra storage, IPVanish offers Livedriver. That’s a cloud storage feature with up to one terabyte of encrypted space available as part of the advanced subscription. It’s a nice bonus for anyone who wants secure cloud-based storage alongside their VPN. Just be mindful that the storage is part of the higher-tier plan, so, it may not be available to everyone.
IPVanish Pricing Plans
Now, let’s take a closer look at IPVanish’s pricing plans and what each deal offers. All right, the provider offers two plan types, advanced and essential, with varying subscription lengths and options, monthly, annual, and biannual. So, the essential plan is the most affordable one. You can see the price on the screen right now. And let me tell you, it rarely goes lower than that. It provides basic VPN protection.
Essential vs. Advanced Plan
However, it does not include some of the premium features available in the Advanced Plan. Unlike the Essential Plan, The Advanced Plan does include extra services such as cloud backup, secure browser, file sync, and share, and phone support. That’s big.
Unlimited Device Connections
IPVanish offers great value with its subscription plans, especially when you consider it comes with unlimited device connections that are great for account sharing with friends or family, as most providers offer around 10 device connections, which are enough for one person, but might run out if you consider a friend group or a family.
Final Verdict: Is IPVanish Worth It?
So in summary, IPVanish’s pricing plans are affordable with great value for anyone who wants solid VPN protection without the hefty price tag.
